At Kerry Street Community School, we recognise that every child is unique — in how they learn, what motivates them, and the support or challenge they may need at different points in their learning journey.
Our Learning Enrichment program provides targeted support and extension that sits alongside high-quality classroom teaching. Working in close collaboration with classroom teachers, families, and school leadership, our Enrichment Specialist supports students who benefit from additional scaffolding, as well as those who are ready for deeper challenge and extension.
What Learning Enrichment Looks Like at Kerry Street
Learning Enrichment is not a one-size-fits-all program. Support is responsive, strengths-based, and designed around each learner.
- Targeted literacy and numeracy support, delivered in short, focused sessions for individuals or small groups
- Extension and enrichment opportunities that foster critical and creative thinking
- Flexible, multimodal approaches, including hands-on materials, drawing, making, discussion, technology, and movement
- Collaboration with classroom teachers to align support with classroom inquiries and learning goals
- Ongoing observation and reflection, drawing on professional learning and evidence-informed practice
Support may shift over time as students grow in confidence and capability, with the aim of building independence, agency, and a positive relationship with learning.

Enrichment in Action: Learning That Inspires Change
In 2024, a small extension group participated in a powerful enrichment experience connected to Jane Goodall’s Roots & Shoots program, part of the Jane Goodall Institute.
After learning about Dr Goodall’s work and reflecting on the quote “Every day, what you do makes a difference, and you have to decide what kind of difference you want to make,” students explored their own concerns about endangered species, environmental responsibility, and intergenerational change.
The group chose to respond through a collaborative art and writing project, creating works that expressed both the beauty of the natural world and the urgency of protecting it. Their pieces were accompanied by written statements and poems designed to evoke emotion and prompt reflection within the wider community.
The students were invited to present their work at the Roots & Shoots annual event at Perth Zoo, where they shared their project with confidence and pride. Their presentation was acknowledged by Jane Goodall herself, and many attendees commented on the depth, clarity, and emotional impact of the children’s work.
Experiences like this reflect the heart of Learning Enrichment at Kerry Street — supporting students to think deeply, feel empowered, and understand that their ideas and actions matter.
